Digital Scanning for Preservation and Replication
The Burrage House was built in 1899 for Alfred Burrage, a businessman, lawyer, and philanthropist. Burrage reportedly modeled the home’s architecture on that of Chenonceau, a medieval chateau in the Loire Valley of France. The detailing of the Burrage House, however, is a blend of many heritages that perfectly epitomizes Gilded Age architecture. Extraordinary moldings, glimmering chandeliers, and carved mahogany paneling are only the beginnings of the beauty in the august residence. In order to preserve and replicate the moldings the owner of the Burrage House employed 3D scanning technology to digitize intricate marble and wood work most of which were 3D printed and added to the remodeled sections of the House.
